About the HappyHooker Blog
This is a blog dedicated to crochet, knitting, and cross-stitch. Patterns, charts, journaling, yarn, stitches, whatever. All of my patterns are free, but I’ve worked hard to make them, so please, credit me if you make something, and for pity’s sake, please don’t sell the patterns. Go right ahead and sell your finished objects, though. 🙂
I design 95% of the charts I use in my crochet and cross stitch projects. While I am happy to share these designs with everyone, here are some answers to my more frequently asked questions:
1. I love your [Insert Chart name here] chart. Can you make me [Other chart name] chart? – No. I chart pieces that I intend to make and only those. I make what I chart, and so I don’t really have time to chart things I won’t be using. Sorry.
2. How can I resize this chart? – You can often add or subtract rows from the background of any given chart to make it a different size. I will not rechart something to make it a different size. Sorry.
3. I’m having trouble with [a specific technique]. Can you email me to walk me through it? – No. I am not in a position to provide additional support for any given techniques. I have done a photo tutorial on tapestry crochet; see How to Follow a Chart Using Tapestry Crochet. Other than that, please utilize Google or YouTube to gain access to other tutorials.
4. I can’t read a chart. Will you write out the pattern? – No. I don’t use written patterns for my work, and as such, I will not be writing out counts for each row for any of my charts. If you do so, please let me know and I will link to your instructions in the pattern.
This may all sound really harsh, and I’m sorry for that. But I am not a professional crochet artist or designer. This is my hobby, which I offer for free to you to peruse. I am not in a position to be an unpaid designer, pattern finder, or technique guru.
I hope you have fun with my patterns, but I have disabled comments on all new posts because I have gotten so many demands for additional help and services.
Happy hooking,
Jess

Just love your patterns, I’ve been a crocheting for over 40 years.
Can you explain to me how to crochet the superman logo with that pattern? I am newer to crocheting
I would recommending reading this post: https://happyhooker.wordpress.com/2013/01/24/how-to-follow-a-chart-for-tapestry-crochet/
I hope this helps.

I know this is not the right place to enter this comment but I am having difficulties with the site. Anyway, I wanted to thank you so much for posting the Scrappy Tardis Pattern. My Granddaughter (aged 13) is a huge Dr. Who fan. She had to have extensive back surgery two weeks ago and so I made her a Tardis blanket from your pattern for the hospital. It came out wonderful. I actually did it in Tunisian crochet (which I find is easier on my wrists and elbows) and it ended up HUGE! It’s over seven feet long and four feet wide! I’d love to send you a picture of it but I don’t know how to post a picture. Anyway, thanks again for posting the pattern. She loved it and so did everyone at the hospital.
Hey your patterns are great for embroidery thanks. Question would you know where I can find shield and hydra patterns?
I just came across your blog and I love the super hero logos. They are exactly what I have been looking for. I was wondering if its possible to make the patterns smaller and if so can you give me a tip on how to do that.
My name is Tori. I have been crocheting less than a year. I just found your blog and love it! Can’t wait to try out some of your patterns. But I am confused about the “charts”. How do I use a “chart” as a pattern or instructions?
Hi and thanks! Check out this post I did to try to help with this: https://happyhooker.wordpress.com/2013/01/24/how-to-follow-a-chart-for-tapestry-crochet/
Hi, I just finished making a TARDIS blanket. Since I shared it on FB, friends have asked if I could make other designs on blankets. So how would I take a picture and turn it into a chart to crochet from? Specifically, a friend asked if I could take a picture of his guitar and crochet it as actual size on a blanket
The easiest way to convert a picture to a chart is to use a program. KnitPro, Pic2Pat, MyPhotoStitch and PC Stitch are all good ones. Google them and check out which ones work best for you. Note: PC Stitch isn’t free, but you can use it for free and import pictures into it without buying the full program.
I have questions about your Graph Afghans…
Could you email me on: createdwithlovebymerry@gmail.com?
I’m new to graph afghans, I have made one, but did much adjusting as I know I didn’t do it correctly.
I need instruction as to stitches and spacing.
My first one I did all in sc using a us-size J-hook and it would have been so small, so I added 30 sc to each side all around… And I added my own writing which didn’t come very well either.
PLEASE HELP!!
I am not in a position to offer individual help at this time. Please utilize YouTube for video tutorials that ay help you.
Hey I love your stuff, it’s amazing. I found a pattern of yours through Ravelry, its the tardis blanked and I really want to make it but I’m having a hard time with the pattern layout. I was wondering if you could help me out with that. The only image for the pattern I found is too small to see! Is there a link to a larger printable version that I’m missing?! Please help!
You can right click on the image, select open image in new tab, and press CTL + until the image is the size you want.
Hi. I would really like to make your ‘Dobby is a Free Elf’ afghan but when i click on the link for the pattern i get an error message from google drive saying that the file i have requested does not exist. Could you please repost the pattern?
Sorry about that. I have fixed the link.
This may be a stupid question, but what stitch do you use on your graphed afghans (like the Sally and Hamilton ones)? Are you using single, double, half double, etc.?
Not a stupid question at all. I use single crochet for all my charts.
